The Intimate Forest

A Celebration of the Beauty of Nature in Oil Paintings by Harlan

30x40 2005

Giclee prints available

As a child my mother had several clematis cascading on lattice near the kitchen door. The sight was always a delight. My own attempts to grow clematis in my rather shady yard have not been successful. This painting is of a blossom from my last attempt to introduce clematis to my garden. I loved the composition, the contrast of color and light and shadow.

This painting won Members' Choice for the EBSQ Flower of the Month show in July 2005.
